Reverend French W. Myers Jr.
Rever end Myers preached his trial sermon on
September 1953 at Metropolitan United Methodist Church in Indian Head,
Maryland. He came to Galbraith A.M.E. Zion Church in 1964 and served as
minister of the Junior Church under the pastorate of Reverend C. W. Turns on
loan from Union Wesley A.M.E. Zion Church where Reverend George L. Smith was the
pastor.
Later in 1964, Bishop Raymond L. Jones appointed him as pastor of
St. John's A.M.E. Zion Church in Odenton, Maryland. In 1969, Bishop Stephen
Gill Spotswood appointed him as pastor of Mount Tabor A.M.E. Zion Church in
Avondale, Pennsylvania. Bishop Charles H. Foggie appointed him as pastor of Oak
Grove A.M.E. Zion Church in Gaithersburg, Maryland. During his pastorate, a new
church was built and dedicated in 1978. He was the pastor of Oak Grove for
fifteen years. In 1989, Reverend Myers returned to Galbraith A.M.E. Zion Church
under the pastorate of Reverend William M. Patterson. He served as the Junior
Church minister.
He is presently serving as Minister of Visitation, Sunday School
teacher, Sunday Worship Liturgist and as a member of the Board of Christian
Education.
Reverend Myers is married to Stella Parish Lowery Myers. They have
been married for fifty years. He is the father of four children, ten
grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. His favorite song is "In the
Garden." His favorite scripture is 1st John Chapter 3:2.
"Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear
what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him;
for we shall see him as he is."
Reverend Sylvia Byrd Lewis
Reverend
Sylvia Byrd Lewis is a native of Washington, DC. She attended the District of Columbia
Public Schools. She is a 1965 graduate of Eastern Senior High
School.
Reverend
Lewis attended Washington Bible College evening school. She studied Messianic
Jewish Studies under the American Board of Missions to the Jews, District of
Columbia Branch. She was tutored in Hebrew by the late Arthur Bogner, an
Orthodox Rabbi. He Jewish studies have helped her with her work in Jewish
Evangelism since the late 1960's.
Reverend
Lewis preached her trial sermon in June 1987 under the pastorate of the late
Reverend William M. Patterson. She entered the District Conference on April
1988, entered the Annual Conference in May of 1988 and was ordained a Deacon in
1991. She started a mission church in January 1991. In 1992, she was ordained
as Elder. She was pastor of the mission church for ten years.
Reverend
Lewis returned to Galbraith A.M.E. Zion Church in 2006 and she assists the
pastor in worship services, chair
of the Board of Evangelism, works with the Outreach Ministry, and now teaches
the young adults in Sunday School. She resumed her radio Missionary in
March 2008, Mondays 8:30 p.m. on WYCB 1340. Reverend Lewis is President of The
Sylvia B. Lewis Evangelistic Ministry Inc. She also conducts Bible
Seminars.
Reverend
Sylvia B. Lewis is married to Larry T. Lewis. They have been married for
thirty-seven years.
Reverend
Lewis's favorite scripture is Roman Chapter 1:16.
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it
is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew
first, and also to the Greek."
TyRissa Turner-Youth Minister
TyRissa Turner was born and raised in Washington, DC and Prince George’s County, MD. She is a Mentor, Community Service Advocate/Volunteer, Youth Worker and Entrepreneur.
TyRissa is a graduate of Ebenezer A.M.E Bible Institute, where she realized the calling that the Lord had on her life to minister to youth/young adults along with reaching out beyond the walls of the church to develop outreach ministries. TyRissa’s scripture foundation is Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and future”. TyRissa is currently pursuing her Masters of Divinity Degree at Wesley Theological Seminary in Urban/Youth Ministry.
She has actively served the community and her home church Ebenezer A.M.E Church in Fort Washington, MD for over 10 years. Ministries of service included the Youth/Youth Adult Ministry, Lay Organization, Missionary Society, Outreach and Women’s Ministries.
A very strong advocate for encouraging home ownership, TyRissa educates potential homeowners while she utilizes her skills as a licensed Real Estate Agent and Mortgage Consultant.
In regards to serving today’s youth, TyRissa is the founder of “Daddy’s Hidden Treasures”, a young women’s mentoring program. This program enables TyRissa to educate, empower and enlighten today’s youth that they are God’s hidden treasures of precious gems, diamonds and pearls waiting to be used greatly in the world to effect change and make a difference. Furthermore, the program is designed to help the young women to better prepare for making wise choices in regards to issues in which they may be involved.
TyRissa is currently serving as an intern from Wesley Theological Seminary as the Minister to Youth and Young Adults under the Christian Education Department.
Reverend Dr. William W. Anderson

The Rev. Dr. William W. Anderson was born and raised in Northeast Washington, D.C., where he attended the Phelps Vocational High School. He is the first of two children born to Willie Henry Lee and Hattie Mae Anderson. He is married to the former Barbara Bender, and they are the proud parents of five children and the grandparents of 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He is a retired employee of the United States Postal Service. He served two years in the United States Army during the Korean War. His hobbies include reading various historical accounts and listening to 20th century classical music.
Dr. Anderson is a son of the Galbraith A.M.E. Zion Church, where he joined as a child. It was there he served as a Sunday Church School teacher, recording secretary of the Varick Christian Endeavor Society, president of the Senior Usher Board, and the Institutional Representative of Boy Scout Troop 311.
In March of 1975, he received his calling to the ministry, and the same year he was licensed as an Exhorter and a Local Preacher by Presiding Elder Henry H. Sink. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1979 and an Elder in 1983 by Bishop Charles H. Foggie.
In 1982, he began his pastoral ministry serving as pastor of the following Zion churches: St. Mark A.M.E. Zion Church, Luray, Virginia; St. John A.M.E. Zion Church, Odenton, MD; John Wesley A.M.E. Zion Church, Baltimore, MD. Presently, he is completing his fourteenth year as the pastor of the St. Lucille A.M.E. Zion Church of Washington, DC.
Dr. Anderson received some of his theological training at the Washington Bible College and the Howard University School of Religious Studies. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Ministry and Master of Arts in Ministry at the Southwest Bible College and Seminary. He received his Doctorate Degree in Church History at the International Bible College and Seminary, Independence, Missouri.
Currently, he serves as the Washington District Director of Evangelism. He is the member of the Philadelphia Baltimore Conference Holy Orders Committee and is also an instructor for the Philadelphia Baltimore Conference Studies.
He and his wife have decided to return to their home church for worshipping,
which is the Galbraith A.M.E. Zion Church of Washington, DC, under the pastorate
of the Reverend Dr. Myrtle Bowen.
